ABC Natural History footage goes Wild!

Footage from the ABC’s amazing natural history collection is currently featuring in a new exhibition at the Melbourne Museum. Wild: Amazing animals in a changing world examines how animals are affected by climate change and human activity, and what we can to do protect these native treasures.

The museum first contacted the Melbourne office in early 2009 with a long list of animal species they wanted to include in the exhibition. Given our vast collection of outtakes from numerous award-winning ABC natural history programs and our expertise in the area, we were well equipped to meet the museum’s brief.

From quolls to bandicoots to emperor penguins, the ABC Library Sales team were delighted to supply the museum with over 10 minutes of ABC footage of Australian animals and the environments they inhabit.

The exhibition is currently showing in the Science and Life Gallery at the Melbourne Museum.

The 80’s Are Back at the Powerhouse!

A lot happened in the Eighties. The Azaria Chamberlain case, the Tiananmen Square Massacre and the Challenger tragedy made world headlines. The Rainbow Warrior was bombed and Prince Charles made Diana Spencer his wife.

Re-visit the moments that defined a decade at The 80’s Are Back exhibition at the Sydney Powerhouse Museum.

And whilst the decade did see tragedy, the Eighties can be seen as one of the most colourful of modern times – particularly musically. ABC Library Sales worked in conjunction with the curators of the exhibition to supply stock footage from the ABC archives, including Pseudo Echo performing live on Countdown, as well as the Countdown Music and Video Awards from 1986 where Brian Canham beat Michael Hutchence for Most Popular Male Performer.

The ABC Library Sales Rage music video clip collection was also utilised. Classic 80’s video clips such as Karma Chameleon (Culture Club), Girls Just Want to Have Fun (Cindi Lauper) and Burning down the House (Talking Heads) all feature in this exhibition. Also featured are clothing and props from the era, including the boots and jacket worn by Brian Canham on Countdown as well as the puppets from Rubbery Figures.

The 80’s Are Back is open until late 2010 at the Powerhouse Museum, Sydney.

ABC Archives offers high quality science footage to program makers

ABC Science has personality

The ABC has always worked with the superstars of local science broadcasting. The earliest was Professor Julius Sumner Miller who moved from the US to Australia and began working on a groundbreaking series called ‘Why Is it so?’. This catchphrase still rings a loud bell with everyone who grew up in Australia in the last decades of black and white TV.

Our more recent relationships are with respected broadcasters such as Dr Karl (Kruszelnicki) who (amongst his many talents) answers questions on seemingly inexplicable science phenomena. Dr Robyn Williams has hosted The Science Show, Ockham's Razor and In Conversation on ABC radio and Dr Norman Swan produces the ABC radio program The Health Report bringing rigour to the latest developments in the area of health sciences.
